How does the CWliftshare registration process work?
Anyone who works for Cable&Wireless Worldwide and is interested in car sharing can register to join CWliftshare. To start using the site you must complete a New User Registration form.
You will then be asked to input the Group Password, which identifies you as a member of the Cable&Wireless Worldwide group. You should have received notification of the Group Password, but if you do not know it, contact the group administrator Emma Kidd at
emma.kidd@cw.com.
You can then start to register your journeys, including details of where you are going from and to, how frequently you make this trip, and whether you are offering a lift or looking for one.
For the final stage of registration, you will be sent an e-mail with a Activation Link. Click this to activate your CWliftshare membership and you will be taken back into the CWLiftshare site. You will then be able to start searching for others to share your journeys with.
When you have found a match, remember to tell your local Cable&Wireless Worldwide reception or security desk that you will be car sharing.

I already share my car journeys with a colleague. Should I register with CW liftshare?
YES. By registering as a car sharer with CWliftshare you will be eligible for certain benefits, such as the use of the emergency taxi home provision should your driver be called away from work. Some offices offer benefits such as the use of reserved car parking spaces for car sharers. There may well be other benefits offered in the future, so by registering you will be kept informed of these.
Another good reason for existing car sharers to register is that you might be able to increase the number of people who travel together. You could find that instead of two people sharing, 3, 4 or 5 of you could share. The more people in the car, the more you will save in travel costs!
Remember to give the names of regular car sharers to your local reception or security desk

What should I do once I have decided to car share and made a match with a fellow employee?
Once you have decided to start car sharing with a fellow Cable&Wireless Worldwide employee, you need to register as a car sharer at your office reception. For offices which do not have regular receptionists, you should register with your local security desk. Registering is important as it will entitle you to benefits for car sharers, such as use of the free emergency taxi service or use of special parking spaces (where provided).

What is car sharing?
Car-sharing is when there is more than one occupant in a private car. We all share cars regularly, with our friends and family, without thinking about it. But there are often times when a driver has empty seats in the car because they don't know of anyone who needs a lift.
And that's where organised car-sharing, using the best of today's technology, comes in.
The liftshare matching service puts people travelling in the same direction or a similar destination in contact with each other, allowing them to arrange to travel together and share the costs, whilst also reducing congestion and pollution on our roads.

What are the benefits of sharing a car?
The UK has the worst congestion, longest commuting time, second highest road utilisation and highest car ownership in the EU.
The UK's traffic situation has led to significant social, economic and environmental costs:
- Traffic jams cost the economy £5 billion every year in lost productivity
- There are 10 million empty seats on the road every day
- The average speed of traffic in London is 10 mph
- 29% of children travel to school by car
- 90% of London air pollution is caused by road traffic
Sharing a car:
- Reduces the costs of travelling by car
- Undercuts the cost of nearly all other forms of transport
- Reduces congestion and pollution
- Reduces parking problems
- Reduces the need for a private car
- Widens the recruitment catchment areas for businesses
- Provides a real solution to the lack of public transport in rural areas
- Facilitates the integration of public and private transport
- Is a way of meeting new, like-minded people.
If half of UK motorists received a lift one day a week, congestion and pollution would be reduced by 10% and traffic jams by 20%.

What are the financial benefits of car sharing?

What are the insurance implications of liftsharing?
"Participating in the lift-share scheme will not invalidate drivers' motor insurance", says Vic Rance of the Association of British Insurers.
"Drivers in doubt should contact their insurers".
Sharing cars and sharing the cost should not increase your insurance costs, though charging passengers more than their share of the running cost can invalidate your cover.
If you would like to contact your insurance company, please feel free to use our Draft Letter.

What happens if my liftshare fails?
